Phenology of (herbaceous) plants and plant-pollinator interactions

Another research focus is the phenology of plants, in particular herbaceous species. Using repeated observations of many different plant species, also in our Botanical Garden, throughout the year, we can detect potential changes in the phenological phases (PhenObs). We then also combine those phenological data with plant functional (flower) trait data of the respective species. Additionally, we also observe pollinator insects of those plant species to study plant-pollinator interactions, also in the light of a changed plant phenology (PollObs). In the frames of the GCEF, we study plant phenology and flower trait variations under future climatic scenarios. Besides, we also involve citizen scientists in phenological observations in their garden (Pflanze KlimaKultur!).
