Macroecology
Macroecology is a sub-discipline of Ecology, analysing emergent properties of a large number of so called 'ecological particles' with advanced statistical tools (Brown & Maurer, Science 1989). These 'particles' can be species or functional groups (defined by biological or ecological traits), as well as their occurrence across large spatial or temporal scales.
We specifically analyse the impact of drivers of Global Change (such as biological invasions, land-use change, climate change) on species diversity and species ranges with macroecological methods. A novel focus is on the changes of the functional composition of species assemblages and communities and bridging different scales.
